GREEN ASPHALT

Joint Innovation Unit on Valorisation of agro-forestry residues into advanced building materials and technologies

Total budget: 1.544.875,07 €
Description:
This Joint Innovation Unit (UIC-GREEN ASPHALT) is created with the aim of valorising agro-forestry waste into advanced construction materials and technologies, i.e. to develop new construction materials (bio-binders and bioasphalts) from lignocellulosic biopolymers; by-products and waste from the agro-food industry (such as vegetable oils and recycled oils); and plastic waste from agriculture (plastics from greenhouses, tunnels and mulching).
UIC Green Asphalt plans to start up a pilot bitumen modification plant in Gerena (Seville). This will make it possible to obtain materials with special properties and improved characteristics, resulting in a more eco-efficient construction.

An incentive of 613,181€, 80% co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund ERDF, has been received from the Agency for Innovation and Development of Andalusia IDEA, of the Andalusian Regional Government.
